This summer, I was a teaching assistant at the Kickstart Program at Father Michael McGivney Catholic Academy. I worked under Mr. Rende, supporting incoming Grade 9 students as they got familiar with high school life. From organizing classrooms and fixing tech to teaching Blender and troubleshooting software, I wore a lot of hats — and loved it.
Let's talk about how this co-op placement shows who I am...
Before this placement, I never saw myself as the “teaching assistant” type. I’m usually the guy who keeps to himself, into law, tech, motorcycles, cars, and building things that matter. But working at Kickstart showed me that my interests in leadership, systems, and strategy don’t have to be kept separate from human interaction.
I realized that managing a room full of teens isn’t so different from running a team, navigating a court case, or coding a backend; it’s all about reading the situation, staying three steps ahead, and solving problems under pressure. Helping teach Blender also reminded me how much I enjoy breaking down complex things into clear steps, something that ties directly into law, comp sci, and even racing strategy.
This placement didn’t just help me get better at talking to people, it showed me how my quiet personality can still thrive in social, dynamic environments. I’m not loud, but I don’t need to be.
